Contemporary Circus of Aotearoa

Inverted Citizens was founded in 2018 by circus artists Jackson Cordery, Laura Oakley, and Sophia O'Connor in Wellington, New Zealand. Our work strives to elevate circus as an artform in New Zealand, combining a theatrical approach with the sense of fun and accessibility inherent to traditional circus. Our vision is of a thriving circus sector in New Zealand that embraces our unique place in the world.

We have presented our work at festivals and venues around Aotearoa and overseas to rave reviews, and have won multiple awards for our performances. Our winning formula for high quality work is underpinned by three key ingredients; audience experience, our kiwi identity and the accessibility of our work.

We've performed in theatres, on the street and in school courtyards. We love the versatility of circus as an artform and we can't wait to bring our work to communities all over the country. See you there!
